CPU/Ram: athlon xp 2000 / 512 MB S
Comment:

So i built a brand new PC yesterday and i'm having drastic problems. I have a Biostar M7VIG MOBO w/ Athlon XP 2000, 512 MB sdram, on board video. Everything seems to be functioning fine - all fans come on, hard drive, ram count, but i get no video on the screen. it just sits there and blinks the led light, like it is in standby. I tried a PCI video card, but i can't see the BIOS to disable onboard video.

I can't figure this out and its driving me crazy. i know the monitor works for sure, it has to be something internal, i'm just hoping it repairable because i really don't want to ship this thing back off and wait forever. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I know it sounds pretty simplistic, but double check the monitor cable to amek sure it's secure on both ends. Do you get any video with the PCI card? Have you checked Biostar's website to see if they have any support DOCs relating to this issue? My heart goes out to you. That is a real nightmare.

I had the same problem when I upgraded my proceeor. I was ready to take it back when I read in the MOBO manual that when the computer was booting to hold down the insert key to reset the bios so it could see the new processor. After that it was great. The video was back and all was fine. I have an EPOX mobo so you may have something like it for yours but i cannot tell you for sure. GOOD LUCK RSG

The first thing I would do is use the onboard grapics adapter first and take the other PCI one out for the time being. See if it boots then to get into BIOS and reset your config. You should really boot your first try with just vid, ram, and CPU to make sure it POSTs.

This might sound even simpler check and make sure that your hard drive cables are connected with red line to pin 1 on mobo and hard drive on some systems this will prevent the bios from loading if its set to halt on all errors.
