Comment: I've been trying to build a computer for my brother. Last Tuesday, I bought and installed a Sound Blaster Audigy 24-bit sound card. I followed all of the set-up steps, and the card worked perfectly. Today, Sunday, when I booted the computer, all I received (as far as sound ) was nothing but 'static'; no system sounds, no music from cds, only static. I re-incerted the installation cd and did a repair of all the drivers, etc. Again...static. The set-up guide suggests going into the program folder for Creative, and using a diagnostic utility included. I receive the error message. "The audio device supported by this application may not be present or is operating in an unsupported mode. You need to close this application.'' The device manager says the card is working 'perfectly'. But when I try to register the device, it reports there is NO unregistered product detected. Frustration is setting in!!! Any help is greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Reply: (edit)Thanks,street1, for your reply. Several times I've uninstalled 'Creative Audigy' from the control panel, but the results are the same. Should I also get rid of the audi codecs and the legacy audio drivers and just re-install from the Soundblaster cd???

Reply: (edit)Also disable any onboard sound chips in the BIOS. You may need to boot into safe mode and remove the devices from there as there could be more than one instance installed.
