I have a motherboard ASUS A7S333 with a HD 60GB 7200RPM. It is the Primary Master. I installed a second HD 60GB 7200RPM ATA133 Maxtor. It is the Primary Slave, but not detected in bios. My secondary IDE has a DVD/CD-RW Master and a CD-ROM Slave. When I go into the bios and look at the IDE Configuration, it shows the Primary Master has been detected, but next to Primary Slave, it says "none". When I change the Primary Slave to "auto", save the changes and then restart the computer, the new drive is still not detected. The Jumpers are OK. Someone to help me?

Once I had the same problem, couldn't get the slave to be recognized, and it had me talking to myself. I finally discovered that if I set the Master and Slave jumpers to those settings (as opposed to Cable Select) and switched from round cables to the traditional flat IDE cable everything was recognized correctly.
BTW, be sure to have your HDDs on the same IDE cable, Slave on the middle and Master on the end.
