new ram issues

Specs: Windows XP, Pentium 4 3.0 ghz with HT
New ram 4 1 GB DDR 400 MHZ PC3200 ram when installed into my asus P45DLA mother board wont boot up but my old ram still boots up this is apparently the max type of memory that this mother board can handdle i have a geforce 4 mx 4200 gfx card in their and only a 250w power supply. could the lack of power be the issue here in the upgrade here or is something else wrong like ram DOA?

That site says the max is 4GB but it also says that if it's an HP or Compaq, only 2GB is recommended (confusing), 4 x 512MB.

I doubt a power issue.

Put one in at a time to test.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

ok well im wondering if the fact i got ecc ram would be causing this issue? and ive been looking and i get mixed signals on weather 4gb is max can it be more than 2 if its an hp?
