Specs: Yosemite
My Epson XP 420 will not print black. New printer and a new ink cartridge. It printed fine with the original cartridge supplied. I'm using Epson's ink. Please advise.
Thank you

Some new Epson printers won't accept third-party compatible ink cartridges, Epson has modified the electronic chip on their own brand of cartridges and the compatible ones don't have the exact same chip so the printer won't recognise it.

The solution? Buy a genuine Epson cartridge, not a cheaper compatible one.

Thank you. However I am using Epson ink cartridges. I've changed out all of the ink and the black is the only one not working.

Maybe the new ink cartridge is faulty. You could try cleaning its connections and re-inserting it again. If it still doesn't work unplug the printer from power for a minute or so then plug it back in again.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

I have not had an Epson printer in years but I remember that back then once in a while the ink would leak onto the contacts and I had to clean the contacts on the printer and the cartridge with Q-Tips and rubbing alcohol to work properly.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Thank you Derek. I had just done this before I had received you reply and had yet to test it. When I did test it last night it worked great!
