New power supply won't work

I just got a new power supply for my emachines T6528 (http://www.emachines.com/products/products.html?prod=T6528).
The power supply I got is an Antec EarthWatts 500 (http://www.antec.com/usa/productDetails.php?lan=us&id=27500).
I installed it myself - fairly simple procedure - but when I tried to turn my computer on afterwards the only thing that happened was that the fan started and ran for about half a second then stopped. The light on the front of my computer was blinking afterwards but could not get it to start.
Is this power supply compatible with my emachines? Why else would it not work?

Check the color of the wires on the motherboard connector to see if they are the same.
Why was the power supply replaced? Was there a problem and you assumed the power supply was bad?

I replaced the power supply in order to support the new video card I got.
I ended up taking everything out, and putting it all back in, just because I didn't know what else to do. And it worked! No problems at all. Thank you though for your suggestion.
