I have wanted to build a PC for a while and finally have the money. Heres what I came up woth. I think I have everything balenced out pretty well. Cant see any bottlenecks to performance (If you disagree let me know). Any major flaws that anyone can see? My main concern is if the power supply will work with the mobo? Sticking with stock cooling unless there is a problem or plan to oc(any concerns)?

DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D $145
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Winchester $267
eVGA GeForce PCX 6800GT $380
1024 Crucial PC3200 DDR DIMM $102
2x Seagate Barracuda ST380817AS 80GB Hard Drive $130
Antec True Power 550W Power Supply (will this work with mobo?) $100
Antec Super LANBoy Aluminum ATX Mid Tower $91

Total cost = $1215

And when Im ordering online with price grabber if it doesnt say oem its not oem correct?

Looks pretty good, but 550 watts maybe a bit of an overkill. Unless you are going to do some extreme overclocking etc.. 450 watts should be enough, especially if the +12V has a 20A or highler amp rating, because the amps is what counts the most. The higher the amps on a +12v rail are the better off you will be.

Yes your Antec True power ATX 1.0 will work with that model if it has a 24 pin adaptor, if not you can always buy an adaptor cheap.

I prefer ATX 2.0 myself because it is a true 24 pin, plus it runs on dual +12v rails like for exp (+12v1/A and +12v2/A) which spilts the amps into 2 parts meaning +12v1/A amp current will go to one part of the board like the cpu and the other +12v2/A amp current will go to the other part board like for the graphics card, hard drive, ram etc.. By the amps being split up into two +12v every hard ware device is getting the right amount of amps supplied to them more effecently.

On an ATX 1.0 power supply single +12V/20A or higher should be good enough, but i would go below an 18A.

On an ATX 2.0 power supply +12v1/15A and +12/15A or higher is fine now remember the amps are split into so 15 both 15A's would equal that of a 30A single rail ATX 1.0 power supply.

I have an Antec TruePower II ATX 2.0 430 watt +12v1/17A +12v2/17A power supply that I just bought and it is nice. Of cours it cost me 87 bucks but it is well worth it.

My condolences in reference to you beloved moggy.

Stick with the standard CPU cooler unless you are willing to void your warranty. If for some reason you choose to overclock (ego is the only reason) you might consider an upgrade.

I am not aware of any country in the world that requires the inclusion of the letters OEM in the advertising of a product. The only difference between the retail and OEM version is the inclusion of cables and screws and the pretty box. The exception is with AMD cpus, rumour has it that the better ones are chosen for the boxed version. As yet, in my mind, these rumours are unsubstanciated.

Actually all my OEM Intel boards from various suppliers come with everything (cables, paperwork, etc) except the box. They simply break up 10 packs to make singles.

looks good, but I agree that the PSU is overkill.

You might also want to poke around www.silentpcreview.com 's forums. The first time I built my own pc, I just looked at specs, etc...and it turned out that my system was super loud (reminded me of a vacuum). I've been spending alot of money lately to quiet it down.

OK i have had a change of plans. I am swithcing the mobo to the ASUS a8n-sli deluxe.and keeping everything else the same. I want to keep the 550psu in case I want to put another gfx card at aa later date. If i did tis i believe the bum in power is necessary. I kind of want the sli. The extra 4x slot in the dfi just doesnt really do it for me.

Yeah but if the amps aren't high enough to support dual graphics cards you can have a 600W and still not have enough juice for that second graphics card.

I saw a 550W for example dirt cheap now the avg pc user would think wow that is a lot of power but the amp rating on it was 15A on a ATX 1.0. That is extremly low and if you have a powerful system 15A isn't going to cut it.

Your power supply should be fine, Antec is an excellent brand of powersupply. I checked and it has 24A on the 12v rail so you are good to go.
