Can someone recomend a good website that sells motherboards and cpu's? I'm looking to upgrade my computer to a pentium 4 with at least a 2.4 cpu but don't want to spend more than 300 bucks. Also will sdram work in a motherboard that supports ddr? If not then I will need to buy new ram also. Any suggestions on what motherboards are the best without spending my life savings would be great.

you'll want ddr memory rather than sdram to run with an intel cpu over 1.8ghz or so to avoid wasting the cpu power due to lack of memory speed. sdram is just not good on p4 cpus.

msi makes reliable low cost motherboards. Here are a couple.

You will save money by sticking with 533mhz fsb rather than the new 800mhz, which is why these links are for 400mhz/533mhz boards.

whats the computer for?
gaming - get an Abit IC7 mobo - fantastic board, a pleasure to overclock

you'll need new ram.

get the 2.4 C class, which has an 800mhz fsb

My computer is used for everything. Games, autocad, photo editing, internet, and music to name a few...Can online stores be trusted buying this kind of stuff from them? I have a p4 msi-6566E in my other computer. Is that good enouph or is it outdated. I guess what I want is something new and the best without having to spend over 300 bucks to get it.

The msi-6566E is fine. If you want to overclock you should spend the money to get a C class p4 and the best memory and a new 800mhz mobo. But if you are not into overclocking the incremental costs of things things are not going to translate into better gaming. Better to spend less than $300 and put the savings to a new vid card.

There are a couple of good boards you can get with a 800mhzFSB if your going for that speed processor. I have seen some MSI boards that would fall into your budget along with a 2.4ghz C processor.

If you want to buy RAM along with it though you will have to go for something of a lower class. A 2.4ghzB processor w/ maybe an ECS board or Gigabyte w/ 256MB of DDR400 corsair memory.

try http://www.newegg.com I've been using them for 4 years from things like Ram to Monitors, believe me, you can trust them to be cheap, reliable, and fast. It's all good. :D

as far as your question, if I were you, I'd get the 2.4 cpu, and get a motherboard with 800MHz bus, that way you can upgrade later without buying a new motherboard.

plus, buying cosair is always a smart move, buy one stick now and upgrade later, if you don't have the money for 2 sticks.

I can sell you a P4 2.4GHz 800MHz front side processor(retail box w/heatsink and fan).
And an Intel D865GBFL motherboard (retail package w/cables)800MHz front side,8xAGP,USB 2.0, audio, video, LAN and SATA for $325 plus shipping.

The problem is you would also need some DDR ram. The board supports DDR400/PC3200 up to 2GB.

These products are not advertised on my site yet but are in stock. Price is for check or money order, add 5% for a credit card order to cover merchant fees.
