Comment:

I have just installed a new motherboard in my PC whilst keeping the other devices (i.e. hard drive, network card etc).
The new motherboard has a built in soundcard, but annoyingly I have no sound anymore, including all windows sounds and mp3s etc....

I know the following:

- the speakers def. work

- in 'integrated peripherals' in the startup settings, the onboard sound chip is set to enabled.

- in device manager, the sound card (creative ensoniq) is present, with drivers, and 'working properly'.

does anyone have any ideas??

Cheers, Dave.

Try removing it from device manager and reinstalling your motherboard chipset and sound drivers on the disk.

Also, make sure the speakers are connected to the right jack and that sound is not muted.

the board had no software with it...but surely the soundcard's creative drivers are the correct ones to use?

No one that I know of uses onboard chips from Creative Labs. Even if they did, you would still need to install thier drivers. You need to identify the exact model of your MB and then download all the drivers for it. If you don't know the MB model, download and run aida32. This will give you that info and much more. Find it at: aida32.hu
