win/98-multisync 50 nec monitor-board intel mu440exaa698722-402
while running 30m to 1hr monitor will darken.still readable then will go back to normal lightness for awhile 20-30 min then darken again any help on what may be prob.and solution. have been told -new monitor or vidio card-or new puter

I would say it is either the monitor or the video card. The only real way to find out is to swap parts. The easiest to swap is the monitor. Try it on another system. If it appears to be good then try uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics drivers. This could also be caused by heat. Dirt, dust, non functioning fans, etc. All can cause excessive heat buildup. Good idea to do housekeeping inside the case periodically. Try canned air to blow out the dust.
