Comment:
I just purchased a new monitor, an Acer P241w, a couple weeks ago, and it worked fine up until Thanksgiving.
Initially, I had it hooked up to my 360, but my computer came in the mail today, so I have both of them hooked up to it. I went to start up my computer and the screen came on the monitor, but then disappeared. So I turned off and turned on my monitor again, and for a brief moment, maybe 10 seconds, I could see the Windows screen. Then, the image disappears, but the monitor stays powered. What is so weird about it is that the monitor stays on, but nothing at all shows up on screen, because I cannot even access the monitor menu to adjust any settings. So, I am wondering if I can troubleshoot this myself, or if I have to send this back to the manufacturer.
The monitor has 3 inputs: a VGA, a DVI, and a HDMI input. I've had the connectors in the DVI and VGA inputs before, but I do not have them running at the same time. Anyway, I took out the connectors and put in just the VGA, and I am having the same problems.
If it doesn't work with the 360 anymore, the monitor is fried.
If it does work with the 360....
- try it connected to another computer.
- try booting to the Safe mode menu choices and choosing Enable VGA Mode - that starts the computer normally except it limits it's video to the default VGA mode all monitors support and doesn't load the specific video drivers for your video chipset. If that doesn't work your video chipset is probably fried.
