For your hard drive you have to set the hard drive that has your boot data on it to primary and the second one for secondary, what message do you get or does it just restart your PC

You might be able to get away with a repair instal. You say your XP is SP2. Is your instal disk an SP2 version or is it an earlier version and your SP2 is the downloaded update? If it is an earlier version then it might refuse to do the instal. A format and reinstal might be your option of last resort.

primary master = HDD w/OS
primary slave = CDRW
2ndary master = DVDRW
2ndary slave = 2nd HDD

Use Master or Slave jumper...do NOT use Cable Select. Use 80-wire IDE cable for both channels.

Is master/slave jumper in bios setting or on the mobo?

The jumper settings are on the physical drives themselves.

Usually there are 6 (sometimes 6 or 7) small pins to the left of the IDE cable (wide grey cable, long cable that connects to your MoBo). They should be labled something like

::: (:Master: :Slave: :CableSelect:)

Sometimes Master and Slave are the other way around. So, take the little black jumper and place it vertically over the correctly labled pins.

I hope that was explained well enough to follow.
