OS: Windows 2000 PRO
CPU/Ram: 1400 T-Bird / 384
Comment:

I have an MSI K7T Turbo motherboard, that supports 1.5 GB of ram. Or so the manual says.

Right now I have a stick of 256, and two sticks of 64. Thats just not enough.

I bought a stick of 512 PC 133 from advance modules, and if I put the stick in by its self.. I get a nice beep, and a memory error (according to the lights). If I put my 256 stick in slot 1 (closest to the cpu) and the 512 right behind it, it works enough to load a bios screen. Once I finsh selecting my OS, it does that dos load, with the bottem status bar, then right when it should be switching to the picture of windows 2000, it goes to a blue screen telling me some unexpected kernal error.

If i try safe mode, it tells me a bunch of "your system is not acpi compliant, hit F7 yada yada.."

If i take the memory out, I can load windows just fine.

the weird thing was though, earlier today I had it going fine.. I mean I was in windows, but it seemed unstable, after an hour or so, it would just freeze up. NEver had that happen before. Now it just wont go at all.

What can I do? The bios update for the mobo only fixes the support for the turbo2 on higher end processors, and I dont have a floppy drive in right now so I couldn't update the bios.

Any ideas? It was nice having 800 some megs of ram.. I wish it would work again.

The crucial website lists two possible 512mb pc133 unbuffered non-parity dimms that suit your system. the difference seems to be in the CL rating. One is CL2 the other is CL3. You need to be certain that whatever you purchased matches the CL rating of your current modules.

Try playing with the sdram cycle length. This can be 2 or 3 depending on the cl of the memory you have.
Also the dram clock....this can be 100/133 or 133. Try both.

Richard: The new memory is CL3 rated. I am guessing the other stuff is a bit lower. The thing is, why doesnt the ram work in my computer when its by its self? It won't even load the BIOS screen.

Iandon: I did try playing with taht as well, and for a while, on setting 2, I was in windows, and all was well. When it was at auto it wouldnt load at all, now it wont load at all in any style. I will try playing with the dram clock. I guess I didnt see that before. I'll let you know in a minute what happens.

Also, on a side note, sometimes with the sticks in a different order windows would load, and it wouldnt in a different order. Now it won't load at all.
