I recently purchased a 128MB stick of PC100 memory from pcmemory-stores. Since they vend through Yahoo, I cannot now find their support link. (What a bozo I am, eh?)
I made sure to designate my mobo chipset as Intel 440BX for which I was charged an extra $4.00 for a total of $27.00.
I removed a 32MB stick of memory to facilitate the installation of my new 128MB.
When booting, I notice that SDRAM is recognized at both row 0 and row 4, but only 63MB is now recognized in total.
Any and all suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Phil

Jim:
Thanks for your prompt reply.
I have tried every tweak that I know in the BIOS - including changing to the recommended latency settings - to get my system to recog-
nize my new memory.I suspect a compatibility issue with the vendor even though I did everything according
to Hoyle in placing my order.I did finally finally find the pcmemory-stores support site and have asked their advice.
Any other suggestions would be quite welcome.
Thanks again, Jim.
Sincerely,Phil

It sounds like you bought high density RAM for a board that only accepts low density RAM. What usually happens in this case is either the RAM isn't recognized at all, or it's recognized at 1/2 it's rated capacity...that is, 128mb seen as 64mb. No BIOS tweak is gonna help...youre gonna have to exchange it for the right stuff, or live with it at 64mb.

I am going to assume that your system is a Pentium II 440BX MoBo, like the old A-Bit BE6/BX6 series. According to the specs,, you can put in any RAM stick up to 256Mb in any of the 3(or 4?) slots, of the PC100 variety. To this end, I suggest you try the stick in another slot, and on it's own. Also, try the 32Mb stick in any slot on it's own too,, just to check out all your slots.
If all the above does not work then I suggest the 128Mb stick is either half baked or not the correct configuration. However, those MoBo's could take just about any stick configuration and up to 1Gb too.Safe Computing...:o)

do you by chance remember the support site, I have the same situation with one exception. my ram causes odd errors and lockups. I know its a compatability issue and I am trying to send it back to them to have it replaced. also provided the chipset and processor of my system for their "free compatability test" that obviously doesnt work. any help would be great. thanks.
If computers are so great why are we looked down on for the time we spend on them?
