Having problems installing new memory. at the moment I have 2 256 mb sticks and have 1 new 512 mb stick to install. I clicked it in but my pc fails to boot, only going to a setup screen saying hit del Is there somthing I need to change in the BIOS setup or have I got incompatable memory ie they need to be from the same manufacturer. I got the chip from crucial who scan your system so it must be the right type of memory - I hope!

What type memory is it? SDR (PC100/PC133) or DDR (PC2100, PC2700, or PC3200)?
What make/model motherboard do you have? Did you check the board manufacturer's website before buying the new RAM?

Your Motherboard may accept two different types of memory but you can't install both types. Remove the new memory and download a free utility called Everest Home Edition. This will tell you the MBoard model and the type of memory currently in the computer. Find Everest here: http://www.lavalys.com/products/overview.php?pid=1&lang=en&pageid=1
