Hi everyone,

Im needing to buy a new Intel mobo and a case.

I have the setup in my sig on a micro ATX board, all i need is a full ATX mobo and case to fit everything in.

Im really stumped as to what to get....list of requirements is:

ATX
DDR 'not' DDR2 (have 2gig corsair DDR400)
Socket LGA775 for my P4 560 3.6
2 x Sata v1 (would prefer v2 but most come with DDR2)
1 PCI-E and at least 3 PCI
Supporting Chipset (not SIS :))
Good quality onboard sound
4 x or more USB 2.0
All other usual features....

...and a nice case to fit it all in

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, i know i could google this to death but would rather speak to REAL people who know what theyre on about...
Muchos gracias.

I recently built a computer using a Pentium 4 630 Processor & ECS RS400-A Socket 775 Motherboard.

This MOBO has an ATI chipset and onboard ATI display. It also has AGP and PCIe slots. Audio is Realtek ALC655 6-Channel. It only has 2 PCI slots. It has 4 x Serial ATA connectors.

You can get it at Outpost for $80:

Question whats the difference between Intel 915 / 925 / 945 / 955 chipset. I currently have 915p, should i go for different or another manufacturer (VIA, nvidia, ATI?)

Keep em comin....

i would not get one with integrated video. its a waste of space where more USB or other such ports could go. anyway he said he wanted PCI-e that has AGP

unfortunately it is rather hard to find a decent board with LGA775, PCI-e x16, and that uses DDR(1) not DDR2

is your CPU a Prescott core??

i would also highly recommend getting a PSU with at least 450-watts. i dont think 420-watts is going to cut it with the hardware you have...

what's your budget?

here is an ASUS board with LGA775, 2 DDR slots, an x16 PCI-e video card slot, no onboard video, 6-channel onboard audio, 3 PCI slots, 4 USB ports for $68.00 USD without shipping (on newegg):

if you want something better and are willing to spend more money, here is a nicer and more advanced Intel motherbaord with LGA775, 4 DDR slots, 1 x16 PCI-e video card slot, no onboard video, 6-channel onboard audio, 4 PCI slots, 4 USB ports for $94.00 USD without shipping (on newegg)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813121013

here is a very nice ATX mid-tower case with lights, side-vent, aluminum faceplate, and 450-watt PSU for $69.00 USB without shipping (on newegg):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811156175

my specs: 1.0ghz P3, 512mb PC133, 120gb 7200rpm HDD, 128mb ATI 9200.

perform regular maintenance and anti-virus/anti-spyware scans to keep you computer running smooth and strong. visit my home page'

I see you have an HP PC. Are you aware that if you change the motherboard your HP recovery software will probably not work.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!!!

Thanks one and all, cheers Dragon 306 for the heads up on the boards, i'll check em out, unfortunately im in UK so prices maybe a little higher :(

Its a 3.6 (560) Prescott, ive just got an X1900XTX GPU and it wont fit on my current micro ATX mobo.

Its currently a HP comp but gonna transfer everything over to a new mobo and bigger case....in theory.

Realise bout the recovery my friend...gonna backup so if it dont work ive got sommat to fall back on ;) CHEERS!!!

Anymore suggestion would be excellent....

i would suggest starting fresh with a retail windows XP and retail software. DONT try to use the HP recovery software for it. a) it wont work b)OEM manufacturers put a bunch of junk and software most of us never use on their machines and consquently their recovery disks

keep your PCs running smooth and strong by performing regular maintenance and anti-virus/anti-spyware scans. see my website for recommendations.
