I was just thinking about getting a new hard drive, a maxtor 80GB with sata. Would this hard drive work with my current system?
Amd 1800+
40GB Maxtor HD 7200rpm
300 watt power supply
gigabyte GA-7vkmp motherboard

As far as i can see by looking at http://geek.dealtime.com/xPF-Gigabyte_GA_7VKMP you wont be able to put a serial ata hdd on ur board.

You need either a SATA bus on your board or a pci controller card that supports SATA.
If your board doesn't have one I suggest a normal 7200rpm ATA drive!
