ive got a new (for me) computer that my parents got cheap. my old one had a voodoo 3dfx graphics card, but apparently, they went out of business, so i cant get upgrades w/ that.
ive only got a pentium III, and im wondering what would be the best graphics card to get for gaming (up to my pc's capacity) and within a fairly reasonable price range.

Go for a geforce FX series. Cheap as chips and directx nine compliant, and if your limited to PCI im pretty sure the lower end of the scale has PCI versions (IE an FX 5200 etc)

Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939
Athlon 64 3500+ @2450
Dual -
Corsair TwinX CMX512-3200XL
Gecube X800 XT Platinum
Seagate 200 Gig
Coolermaster Wavemaster Silver

The choices in PCI cards are extremely limited & they're usually much more expensive than their AGP counterparts. I wouldn't advise an FX5200 regardless of it being PCI or AGP...it's simply not a very good card.

Typically, your PCI slots will be off-white in color and will be lined up evenly with each other. If you have an AGP slot, it will be offset from the PCI slots and will often be brown in color. Check also to make sure that if you get an AGP card it is compliant with your PC ... the earlier cards (e.g., ATI Rage Pro cards) will not fit in the newer AGP slots (and vice versa).
