CPU/Ram: Dual Core P4 3.0/1GB RAM
Comment:

Ok, so like 3 or 4 months ago I put together a custom PC, and every 2 days or so its reboots by itself, usually when im running apps like Firefox, IE, etc. Its pretty much been happening since I put it together, a wee bit more frequently and it definitly gets annoying now. Here are the specs

-ECS motherboard/ Dual Core P4 3.0GHz (special on frys, got a good deal....too good???)
-1GB DDR2 RAM
-Dual SATA 200GB hard drives (even with 1 hard drive it rebooted on its own)
-Generic 128MB AGP8X NVIDIA graphics
-Custom case with 450PS
-XP SP2, everything appears to be up to date

Notes:

-The first thing I did was replace the power supply with a new 600watt PS. Problem still exists.
-I ran some sort of freeware memory tester program and it found no errors in my ram.
-Many times I can recreate the reboot especially when Im visiting certain myspace profiles. Many times as soon as I use my scroll wheel on my Microsoft laser mouse the cursor freezes up for a moment, and reboots
-When it starts back up I get the message "Windows has recovered from a serious error....." It also seems to take a while to reboot back up.

Can anyone help me diagnose this problem further or have any suggestions?

What did you pay for it? A good 600W PSU sells for at least $75 & most cost more than that. If you bought generic crap, it may be no better (or even worse) than the 450W it replaced.

Do you have XP set to automatically restart on system failure? Right click on 'My Computer' to bring up System Properties...click on the ADVANCED tab, then go down to 'Startup & Recovery' & click 'Settings'. Under 'System Failure', uncheck the box next to 'Automatically restart'.

Now when your system encounters an error, rather than rebooting, you'll get an error message that *may* help you to determine what the problem is....

i'll admit the PS is probably not the best brand. But do you think my new one with my case was defective, and another one was defective? Also, i unchecked the automatically restart, and i still dont get an error message.

Any other ideas?
