New CPU problems at start up

I upgraded my pc from a 1.8g celeron to a 2.7g celeron.
The computer starts up but when I get to xp log in screen the computer freezes up. This happened on three attempts.

The closest thing I find on the ASUS site is that your board might support upto a 2.4Ghz, but NOT a 2.7Ghz CPU. There is no information on the HP site about processor ranges for the board. A standard P4G celeron board lists from 1.4Ghz to 2.4Ghz range as listed here http://usa.asus.com/prog/spec.asp?langs=09&m=P4BGL-MX The first thing is put the original CPU back in and see if you can still start it. The see what you can do about an exchange for the one you bought. I would not be surprised to hear that the vendor will not take it back since it has been used especially depending on where you bought it and when. Good luck
