Comment:

I had been running a 1ghz Duron and didn't realize the fan on the heatsink wasn't spinning. After about 30 minutes of running it overheated and shut off. Since then I get blue screens which mention checksum errors and physical dumps. I tried swapping out the ram and hard drive. I also tried reinstalling XP. I dont know at this point whether to replace the cpu or motherboard. I believe it's the motherboard, anyone know?

Im not sure how much this will help you. I did once have a question about my CPU and its working ( i.e. being faulty ). I was told that basically your CPU will work or it wont, i.e your CPU cant really become faulty as such.

However there is software out there that can TEST your CPU and i have it to email you or make avaliable on my web site for you to download ( File size : 1 MB )

There is also software to test your RAM, i can email this to you too ( it a boot disk to test RAM ).

If you give me the blue stop screen error message i may be able to discover what the actual fault is.

Just drop me an email o.k@groupis.co.uk

meaning basically that i shorted or fried something on the motherboard, because the computer manages a POST and recognizes the cpu fine.
