Hello!
I posted recently about my computer freezing up and not booting up properly. Since then i've built a new computer out of entirely new everything, aside from the DVD drives and the Hard drive. It seems to run like a dream and i managed to ge a 3dmark score of over 10,000. Nice.

However, it keeps restarting, most often when i try doing something GFX intensive, such as playing a game or running 3dmark. It never does anything else, just restarts. The case has 3 fans, all running fine, and the CPU fan is running fine. The cpu temps idle at about 46 and seem to go up to about 60 when i've just quit a game. MOBO temp seems to be between 50-60. The case certainly never feels hot, and i've run it with the side off.

I've been trying to fix this for ages, and the most promising cause was that i had plugged an IEEE 1394a plug into a USB socket on the mobo, which the manual said do not do as it may damage the MOBO. I unplugged this mistake of mine and the problem has not gone away. Have a permanently damaged my new MOBO (The computer has not had much run-time at all)? Or is something else causing this?

Cheers for any help!

First thing that comes to mind is as usual a "buckling" PSU.

How about supplying the full details of that components as well as any other that you left out.

running a PC with the side open doesn't help your PC...it fills up with dust particles and also the cooling fans are not as effective as when the Case is assembled. Like Don said, disable automatic starting and post the error message that you get when your PC shuts down.

Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

I have an old SATA hard drive from my last comp running as master and a smaller new SATA drive running as slave, and both my old DVD and CD R/W thrown in there as well. I'll try the automatic reboot now, and see how that goes, what does turning this option off do? The PSU is new, but is it powerful enough? I only had the case off for a moment to see if it improved circulation based on someone elses advice, bad idea i guess! There is no error message, it just clean restarts. I'll post the details of the error report that appears when it all turns on again. Give me a while and i'll get back to you. Thanks for the help, i'm tearing my hair out!

After turning automatic restart off, the computer has not restarted on me, but it did appear unstable, and froze up and became unresponsive while trying to install games. When i tried to uninstall the game that was installing as the computer jammed up, it gave me this error:

>setupDLL\setupDLL.cpp (390)
PAPP:Oblivion
PVENDOR:Bethesda Softworks(http://www.bethsoft.com)
PGUID:35CB6715-41F8-4F99-8881-6FC75BF054B0
$11.0.0.28844
@Windows XP Service pack 2 (2600) IE 6.0.2900.2180

I also just had a blue screen with technical information:

***STOP: 0x0000000A (0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x805217E0)

And the error report once i restarted contained this:

Error signature
BCCode : 1000000a BCP1 : 00000000 BCP2 : 00000002 BCP3 : 00000001
BCP4 : 805217E0 OSver : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

Error report contents
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER9c79.dir00\Mini062206-01.dmp
C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER9c79.dir00\sysdata.xml

Any ideas? Could this be software?

Evidently, you do have a sturdy PSU, if the autorestart setting helped out, you may have a software related issue. My advice would be to ensure you are covering all bases. Update all drivers & also run chkdsk while you are at it.

0. Motherboard chipset
1. BIOS
2. Graphics card
3. Windows updates

hmmm, i had the same problem with my old computer just like a month ago, the thing is, mine was just a Steam application problem, so any program that used Steam, just randomly restarted my comp like right when it was loading. what i did to fix it was just upgrade to the latest Nvidia forceware for my gfx card.

Run msconfig, startup. Uncheck anything that you don't need loading into memory at boot time, which is basically everything. Then see what happens.

I've updated the bios the chipset, the onboard sound, the gfx card, and i've disabled all startup programs. I've also tried disabling onboard sound and LAN in the bios, but still no change. If anything the restarts have become more common. I got a whole 4 hours of watching DVD's out of it, then the next day it restarted far more regularly.

Is there any chance it could be my gfx card? Am i barking up the wrong tree thinking my mobo is faulty, because i'm on the edge of buying another one of the same, but i'll be gutted if the same problem happens.
