Hi everyone,

I have a problem that is really really stumping me. I purchased new computer components about a month ago to upgrade my current system. Here are the specs:

P/S: Macron 460W Power Supply
MoBo: ASUS A8N-SLI
CPU: AMD Athlon 3500+
RAM: 512 DDR 333Mhz
HD: 2 x 120GB SATA Drives
Video: NVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra

... and I bought a new case to hold it all :)

So, all my stuff arrived and I was very very excited to put it all together. I have decent experience as a home "tech" so I got everything together fairly easily.

Then, I turn the sytem on and the one thing you always pray doesn't happen when you boot up a new machine happened... Everything powered up and was spinning (hard drives and fans) but there is no video input on the screen plus NO beep codes whatsoever.

So, since the CPU is the first thing that is tested during post didn't seem like it was being tested (no BEEP Codes), I had the MO/BO replaced. Got my new one, set it all up and again I had the same problem.. so I thought maybe the CPU was bad... I have now replaced the CPU and I am STILL getting the same issue... everything powers on, but no Beeps and no video.

I have swapped out the power supply and RAM.. the only thing I haven't changed is the Video Card. I spoke to an ASUS tech and he told me it may be a grounding issue with the MO/BO.. so I taped all the screw whole with Electical tape and used the non-conductive rubber washers on the screws as well. STILL nothing. Can improper grounding fry mo/bo's?

Anyway, the tech also said that the A8N-SLI Deluxe board comes with a vocal post (a lady speaks to you and tells you if there is a problem) so I plugged in some speakers... STILL nothing.

I am really at my wits end here. I have stopped looking at it b/c I get so frustrated that I think I might overlook something.

Can anyone out there help?? Is there something I missed?? Is there something else to try? Any info is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,

Curtis

Did you test the video card in another machine? Do you have another known good video card to try in your new PC? Are you sure the monitor is ok?

The other usual suspect in these cases is the ram. Try booting without it installed. If you get beeps (or the lovely lady with the oriental accent) telling you that you have a ram problem, then it is time to try another stick.

Also drives can drag down the voltage if they have shorts. Disconnect all of them while testing.

A common mistake when installing motherboards is to place standoffs in the wrong places. That can short out the motherboard and keep it from working.
It's a good practice to set up the motherboard with RAM and the video card installed and hook it up outside the case (well insulated) to test it before installing it.
