Once again i am building a new computer, i want to know what CPU and RAM you recommend i buy please.

Here is what i think is good, am i right?
(i want to stick with this Mobo)

Mobo:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/...

CPU:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/...

RAM:
http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpa...

The computer will be used for SOME games but more for music/videos

previously i had bought the E6850 3.0 CPU and was told it wasnt worth it, and i also bought RAM that needed to be underclocked so i dont want to make the same mistake again so im looking for your advice please.

Thanks,

Curious - do you custom build new computers every 4 months?

"previously i had bought the E6850 3.0 CPU and was told it wasnt worth it..."

The price difference between the E6750 & E6850 is approx £48 (roughly $95US). The speed difference is 333MHz. That 333MHz difference can be easily be made up by overclocking.

"...i also bought RAM that needed to be underclocked so i dont want to make the same mistake again"

Well, you're about to make it again. If you run the CPU at stock speed, all you really need is DDR2-667 (PC2-5300). Anything else will need to be underclocked to match the CPU. Even if you overclock the CPU, you probably wouldn't need RAM faster than DDR2-800 (PC2-6400). DDR2-1066 (PC2-8500) is definintely unnecssary. If that's what you want to get, fine...just be aware that for best performance, you will need to underclock it.

This was all explained to you in your other thread (posted above by XpUser)...why are you asking again? Were you hoping the answer(s) would be different this time around?

Gigabyte GA P35C-DS3R

On the Gigabyte Europe (UK) site.
Search for GA P35C-DSR - nothing.
No GA P series listed.
Search for P35C-DSR -
GA EP35C-DS3R, and three mboard revisions of GA P35C-DS3R
http://www.giga-byte.co.uk/products...

GA P35C-DS3R is also on the Taiwan site, but as on the UK site, there are three mboard revisions - which one are they selling??
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/...

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2 x 2.66Ghz 4Mb Cache 1333 FSB Dual Core Processor

All 3 revisions support the cpu you picked, but the required bios version varies.

Rev 2.1 - F9 - 2007/12/19 - First release
Rev 2.0 - F3 - no F3 is listed - F4 is 2007/09/07
Rev 1.x - F4 2007/09/07

For Rev 1.x and 2.0, if the mboard has a bios version F4 or higher, as in it was made after the date the bios version was released, you're fine. If it's been sitting somewhere such that the bios version is older than that, you may not be fine - the mboard may not boot, or it may boot but the cpu will be set to lesser settings. If it doesn't boot, you'll have to temporarily install a cpu lesser bios versions do recognize no problem, flash the bios, then you can install the cpu you wanted to use
For Rev 2.1, you're fine in any case.

Your ram choice is fine, but you have the option of using DDR3 ram on this mboard.

"Your ram choice is fine"

Obviously you don't subcribe to the "CPU:DRAM freq ratio @ 1:1" theory?

Perhaps I should have said "your ram choice is definately compatible". I haven't researched whether it would be an ideal choice.

i am building this computer for someone else not for myself.

i will check the Rev to make sure the bios is F4 and post if i have problems. Also the DDR3 ram is way too expensive and i dont think this guy is really willing to buy it if he is not intending to play games.

Sorry i couldnt find my previous post, thank you for the link to it, i will read it and do as you say. i dont want to overclock to be honest, dont mind underclocking the ram however, but i will read through it all and buy what is appropriate.

Thanks,

If you go to newegg and read the reviews, you'll find that a lot of people are not that pleased with the Gigabyte GA P35C-DS3R. The Gigabyte GA P35C-DS3L gets much betterv reviews for quality, even though it is not as good as the S3R version in terms of features. That doesn't mean you shouldn't get the P35C-DS3R-I just thought you should be aware of the more negative reviews.

"...i will check the Rev to make sure the bios is F4 and post if i have problems."

If you don't have the mboard yet, you may be able to contact the seller and ask which rev it is - they probably can't tell you which bios version it has.
It's easy enough to check the Rev because it's printed on the mboard, and it may be on the box, but you usually can't tell which bios version it has on it until you can boot the computer, unless it's marked somewhere on the box, or on a label on the mboard, or on a plain label on the bios chip itself, the latter which I've seen maybe once. If there is a date on the mboard or the box saying when it was made, that's probably a good clue as to what bios version it has, but I've never seen that. Any date on a fancy label on the bios chip along with Award or AMI or similar is probably useless - it only tells you it couldn't have been made before that date.
If it's 2.1 you're okay in any case.

Thank you all for all your help.

@ WebsWonder i do not get paid a penny for building this for my friend. Whats wrong with you dude all im asking for is help and advice. there are certain things i admit i do not really understand, maybe i should take some time and read up on it, if you know of any website that could help me understand about ram/overclocking and 1:1 ratio theory then please send me the links i would love to be able to learn this.

i have already learnt a hell of a lot from forums since i taught myself to build computers, but as i said there are some things i dont understand.

and apologise i dont mean to sound rude...

Jam, Tubesandwires, XPUser thank your for your help.
