My friend just gave me a broken computer that needed new RAM and a PSU. I just got them today and put it in.

Before I got the parts I thought I would get the hard drive ready so I put the hard drive into one of my working computers and installed a new copy of windows xp home.

The first screen I get shows the Graphics card model and how much ram it contains in the top left corner. Then it flashes to the normal screen that says phoenix technolegies and shows the Processor. THe next screen says
"press <ctrl S> or F4 to enter raid utility" neither of those two buttons work when that screen comes up anyways, but after a few seconds it flashes primary channel and secondary channel: not found. The screen after that comes and goes very quickly. It says PSI device listing and a bunch of other stuff that takes up the whole screen, but like I said its only up for like one second. Then the next and final screen to pop up is the start windows normally, safe mode, and all that stuff. I've tried clicking all of them and every time the screen goes black for 3 seconds a blue screen flashes for about 1 second and it reboots and repeats this entire process.

I think this has something to do with me getting the hard drive ready on the other computer. Any ideas? Should I reinstall xp on this computer?

I'd also like to say before I first took out the hard drive and put it in one of my working computers to preload everything I wanted on the hard drive. I took a peep at the files my friend had on the hard drive and it had no problem at all starting up, so now I'm not sure why the hard drive wouldnt work for moving it back to the computer.

You can not install Windows XP on one PC and move it to another unless the Hardware is very similar.

You need to go into BIOS to ensure the both the hard and optical drives are recognised, the optical drive should be first boot device.

Boot off the XP CD and install a fresh copy.....

Ok MWCC I dont know if your still with me, but good news is XP installed and it rebooted and is doing the blue screen with the music. Kinda scared me when it rebooted because it still showed every single screen but skipped the "start windows normally" and the blue screen that flashes for like 1 second. I hope when its done installing, and I try to restart it, it wont go back to the same crap its been doing, but from this point it looks good so far. I'll write an update probably after I get SP3 installed or before if theres problems.
