OS: have xp pro not installed
CPU/Ram: intel P(d) 3.2ghz/1024G D
Product: Intel
Comment:

well i just build a computer and am experiencing problems trying to install an OS.

Hardware:
Intel D945Pvs Media Edition MOBO
Intel Pentium D 3.2ghx processor
Gforce 7300GT 512mb video card
500 watt PSU
2x 512mb DDRII 533 COMSTAR RAM
160gb maxtor SATA Drive

well i have tested everything and everything is in operating condition. i am able to get into the BIOS and check everything. everything is detected. when i go to insert the winxp pro disc it wont boot on start up. i changed my bios and and got a message saying no bootable device, insert bootable disc and press ok, another message i got with the default setting in the BIOS was

PXE_E61 : Media test failure, check cable
PXE_M0f : Exiting PXE ROM

and i changed my bios again and it booted into DOS or something. i can;t remember the BIOS settings so any help would be appreciated.

Your BIOS settings may be your problem. Either you don't have your optical drive set as a boot device or it isn't connected or configured correctly. Are you sure the XP CD is good?

Your cd or dvd player isn't being recognized. Check your cable connections and power connector to the devices.

I think its the XP cd not being a bootable cd but an autorun cd.

Run thru your BIOS settings again. It appears you have the PC set to boot from the network rather than the HDD.

ok well i did alittle testing and this is what i got.

I got a blank sata HD by the way. fresh and new.
ok here it goes:
the whole time i had the xp cd in

Default Bios: Media Check Failure...ETC
Network Disabled only: Blank screen with blinking cursor
USB BOOT Disabled only: Media Check error
Removable Devices disable: Media Check error
Network , USB BOOT , Removable Devices all disabled: BLank screen

I then put another xp cd in(same win xp pro) and it did all this stuff and when to this Dr-DOS A:/ or something close to that

i have 2 burnt copies from my cousin i copied the one i got from him and used nero and did make bootable disc, thats the one that went to the DR-DOS. OH and i am ordering windows xp with some other computer components of the net because i think its the cd but not sure. any help would be awesome

XP CDs are already bootable! You don't have to make them bootable. The problem is a combination of bad BIOS settings & the fact that you seem to be using a pirated copy of XP that was improperly burned.
