Comment: Hi everyone - I'm hoping someone out there can help me. I'm having real programs getting my new hardware setup to work. I know a bit about computers - enough to build my own, but by no means am I a pro. I just look at every upgrade as a learing experience. I'm trying to upgrade to: P4 2.8c Prescott ASRock P4V88 motherboard But the board simply won't power up. I've got everything as it should be, all the cables in the right place, both power connectors plugged in, etc. I've tried booting up with just the hard drive and just the floppy, but absolutely nothing happens. Irritating, since I sent the first ASRock mb I got back to Newegg for a replacement. The first one DID work, then suddenly died when I touched my computer after leaving it on for about 8 hours. That was the oddest thing I've seen lately. My current system config is below - I know it may seem dumb to list it, especially since it's not the one I'm having trouble with. Honestly, my current system has been reliable beyond words - it's just not powerful enough to run the games I enjoy with any thrilling performance. I am using the same case, memory, drives, and power supply ( Raidmax 420, P4 ready) as I was trying to use with the ASRock / P4 combo. So I know the ATX power connector works, at least. Maybe the other 12 v. connector? Sigh. Anyway, here's my current config: 2.20 gigahertz Intel Celeron ECS P4VXASD2+ 1.0 1024 Megabytes Installed Memory - 1 PC2100 DDR module and 1 PC2700 DDR module, 512 meg each CHAINTECH nVIDIA GeForce FX5200 Video Card, 256MB DDR, 128-bit, 8X AGP Running WinXP Home with SP2 Thanks in advance, and ANY help is appreciated. B

Reply: (edit)Disconnect everything from the motherboard except the video card, CPU and RAM. It should POST with just those components.

Reply: (edit)Thanks for the tip. I tried and it didn't work. Still no power. I reinstalled my celeron and old mb and it still works great. Is it possible that the 12v connector on the power supply could be bad? Also, this MB has SATA RAID, which is something I don't know much about, and have never used. I'm wondering if this isn't a part of the problem I'm overlooking.

Reply: (edit)re sata raid. my mobo (asus) has that on it. I have simply never used it or connected anything to it and it has never caused me a problem. When you say it does not power up, do you mean nothing at all - fans?. when you swicth on, look at the CPU fan, does it twicth even just for a moment. I had one where the only sign of life was a faint twitch from cpu fan and that was a dead PSU (4 wks old) causing it. Have you tried bypassing the switch. remove the two wires that connect the switch to the motherboard and bridge the 2 pins on the mobo with a screwdriver.

Reply: (edit)Hi everyone, and thanks for the help. I finally got the board to work, and here's how: I switched cases. I was ready just to box the thing up and ship it back to Newegg, 15% restocking fee or no, get rid of the computer, and replace it with a sewing machine. At the end of my rope, I decided to try the old behemoth case I had upgraded from last year, just to see if maybe the power switch connector from the old case was having issues with my new board. And guess what. So I'm happy to say that my system is running SUPER fast and that my favorite games - The Sims 1 & 2, Neverwinter Nights, and Dark Age are virtually lag-free. My resource-intensive software loads and runs effortlessly. It's a small pleasure, but it feels like a great victory. Thanks again for all your help - B

Reply: (edit)I am having a similar problem with a PV488 MB I just purchased from Newegg. What case did you have this setup in? Mine is a Kingwin MutantX with 420W PS. I tried ham30's suggestion but no luck (the CPU fan DOES budge just a hair). I tried using another MB and although that particular board did not post (my reason for purchasing the ASRock board!), it DID power up, case fans, LED's and all.

Reply: (edit)I'm having similar troubles. I just got a new asrock mobo yesterday for my p4 3ghz, it worked last night (after much fussing and reinstallation of windows) it worked. i played some sims 2, got online, etc. i then tried doing a full format and reinstall of windows (xp). it formatted fine, but when i booted from CD, went through the process, it told me that some files could not copy correctly (atl.dll and other dll's. this made me mad so i went to bed. when i woke up this morning, the system would not power on. I am just curious, how do i fix this?! I just replaced my faulty motherboard, and now my case is the problem? if you have any suggestions please email them to me, as I am very perturbed that my new motherboard which was working last night, is now stuffed. here's what happens: i tried turning it on this morning, no dice. i hit the power button about 3 times and then it powered up, went past POST, then i just touched the system and it shut down. I've been sitting, hitting the power button, and sometimes it will power up very momentarily, fans spin, but then shut down again. I'm quite upset (quite=im about to punch a hole in the wall)
