hi,
i bought a new 120gb SATA hdd. nothing is installed... new fresh one. i wanna know how to create partitions in DOS mode.
And winxp setup shows total size of disk available is 114471 MB. why is it so?
can't we make use of the complet 120gb space?
please help me asap!!

This question about drive size has been answered many times. Drive manufacturers measure GB as 1000mb and a Mb as 1000Kb whereas windows measures GB as 1024mb. and a Mb as 1024kb. Hence a drive advertised as 120gb by the manufacturer actually measures around 114.4gb in windows.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

btw what the hell is "DOS MODE", Windows XP is a NT (New Technolgy) Operating System based on OS/2.

I suppose "DOS MODE" is what M$ call "TEXT MODE" ??????????????????????

Maybe Razin meant FAT mode and not DOS mode. XP will partition/format the drive as FAT32 which is accessible by DOS. NTFS is not accessible by DOPS or Win9X.
