Specs: Windows XP
I recently installed a fresh copy of xp home on an emachines a friend gave me. I got the os installed but it will not recognize the network adapter attached to the motherboard.. any help would be appreciated

please be detailed --- how an adapter can be attached to the motherboard...perhaps you mean the adapted is attached in the ethernet port, which has a connection with the motherboard...

...did you install your motherboard drivers ( including ethernet driver )

forgive me im not that swift with this.
The plug for the network cable looks like it and the 2 usb ports are conneted directly to the motherboard.

As for the motherboard drivers...no
how do i know which motherboard i actually have?

i had already found this. emachines is no help the only drivers i can find are the chipset and bios.
