Network adapter error code 39

Specs: Windows XP
months ago I bougth a ethernet adapter, I install it and it was working fine. Last week someting happen with the internet connection of my brother's laptov and he decide to move things in my computer(he change the connection setting).I could fix it so I decided to reinstall the windows xp. Now I can't get the adapter working back.In the device manager shows that the device is corrupted or missing... code 39).My computer is a gateway E 4300 and I have a Sabrent usb 0.2 ethernet adapter.

If your brother was having problems with HIS laptop, why would he change the settings in YOUR computer? They have nothing to do with one another.

Why do you even need an ethernet adapter? The E4300 already has a built-in network/ethernet port.

And the error is message is probably "the device driver is corrupted or missing... code 39"

IMO, the adapter is completely should be using the built-in ethernet port. All you need to do is install the network driver that's available at the Gateway website:

My brother is stupid he did change the setting he told me. I have an Ethernet adapter because the port in the computer is broke. The link above shows the adaptor.
