Nero may not be identifying the LG as a target drive. Watch where Nero is attemping to burn to. You can go to the Nero site and download a file that may clear up that issue. If the version of Nero you are using came bundled this may not be an option.

I don't know about problems. I googled & found this

"That said, some techniques are reported to have resolved the "communication error" with other burners that may be worth trying:

Disable DMA (direct memory access) or change it from DMA to PIO (Programmed Input/Output).
Try burning in safe mode.
Try different burner software.
Experiment with drive slave settings, especially if you have another DVD or CD player in your system."

I assume you have the DVD plugin.

Here is the nero info tool.

Personally, I have removed nero & use free software.
Deepburner, Finalburner,CDBurner XP, or Freeburner

Before posting try google. Backup. Use anti virus software.

I have 2 LG DVD Burners 1 about 3 years old the other about 9 months, never had a problem with either, but have had trouble with Nero on XP sp2 which started about 12 months back.
Dumped Nero and using Ashampoo with no problems.

Contrary to earlier versions of Windows I have no problem running both Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator and Nero StartSmart Essentials. Also use Roxio Drag to Disk. As I stated above I think the OPs problem is Nero isn't seeing the burner. That could be because it is a bundled version that will ONLY work with the drive it came with, or that the burner is newer than the version of Nero and Nero needs an update on drive compatibility.
