Hey guys, I work at a machine shop and we have a computer out on the shop floor, and the guys out there need to be able to see the screen, but we need to disable the keyboard and mouse somehow. The the pc is mounted 10 feet up the wall on a shelf, as to prevent it from being tampered with, but the kb, mouse, and monitor are at eye level. Some people will need to use the kb and mouse every once in a while, not often, but we would like to be able to prevent anyone from using it that isnt supposed to, but still need everyone to be able to see that screen. Any ideas? Thanks guys

Dunno if windows has a transparent screen saver so that the screen will be displayed even though the keyboard is locked.

My suggestion would be to put a note on it. Tell the workers not to use this computer.

You could also remove the keyboard and mouse and access it remotely.

You could get a wireless keyboard and mouse and move them to a secure location.

How do you keep people from stealing cookies?

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

Toddler keys freeware locks mouse, keyboard, CD drives and power button... But to switch it off you simply type quit. I'm not sure if this is secure enough for you.... but if passer bys aren't aware it is that easy they probably won't guess either.

It is designed for use with toddlers and youngsters.

You can get it to play sounds when keys are pressed so you are alerted... or little ones are amused :-/

I think jefro's solution is the best and easiest. Get a wireless combination and when not in use lock it up in a draw or cabinet, supply people that are allowed with a key.

I just checked out that program that btk 1 w1 said. It can be a little bit more secure than you think. When you install it and run it, right-click on the "TK" in the task bar. Then click options. Here, you can remove the notification of what to type and make a secure password to unlock it. The only problem with this program is that is also locks the screen, not allowing you to see what is on it.

Just looked a little bit further into the program. If you uncheck all three boxes on the right, the screen will show but the mouse can't click and the keyboard can't type (Except the password.)

Yep i downloaded it this morning and set it up, and found out the same things. Thanks anyways though jamwec, good lookin out. The only thing i noticed is that ctrl alt del still brings up task manager when locked, but even so, you'd still have to unlock the keyboard mouse to do anything with it.

Good to know it is what you need.

If you need to disable task manager you can do so through the registry. It may make it that little bit more secure for you.
