Hello,

Today I tried to install my new Sony CD-ROM drive (model CU5221), but the system won't detect it, and I don't know why. Here's what I did to try to set it up.

First, the instruction manual said to adjust the Master/Slave jumpers on the back of the CD-ROM drive as necessary. Since I already have a CD-ROM burner which is set as the Master, I switched the CD-ROM drive jumper settings to Slave.

Then the manual said to plug a free power connector into the drive. I did that.

Then, it said to plug a free IDE connector into the drive. I did that also.

Finally, it said "If you have a sound card, you can also connect a 4-pin analog audio cable to the analog audio-out connector of your CD-ROM drive and the audio-in connector of the sound card." So I did that.

Then I turned the computer back on. The manual said that the system should automatically detect the new CD-ROM drive and load the appropriate device driver, but this didn't happen. So I tried loading the drivers manually, via the "Add New Hardware" wizard, but that didn't detect the new hardware either.

I can't call the Sony help line until tomorrow, and I'm completely at a loss. My friends couldn't figure out what was wrong either. If anyone here has an idea what's wrong, please let me know; I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Press DEL or F1 or F2 or F10 key when PC is switched on, it will inform you of the KEY to press to enter SETUP. In the BIOS set the drives except floppy to AUTO, follow instructions on screen to SAVE & EXIT BIOS. The drive should now be recognised.................

In Device Manager, do you have a listing for CDROM ?
And, are there any yellow ! next to hard disk controllers ?
