i'm tired of having all of this junk on my computer. i want to take it all back to square one-as in i want to erase all the crap on my hard drive and start over. i've tried a few times now, and i've noticed that i have a helluva lot less space on my hard drive than i used to. can someone tell me how to completely wipe my hdd clean? thanks!

how do i reformat my hard drive? i've talked to a few people but i still can't quite figure out what i need to do. when i pop in my windows disk and click on 'install windows xp' it says its unable to because my version is newer than the version on my disk.

just a little hint when you install progams custon install them install just what you are going to use you'll be surprized how much space you'll have.

You need to boot up from the Windows XP disc, go into the BIOS and set your optical drive as the primary boot device, reboot and follow the rabbit.
Do not type anything in this space.

Whoa! Before you reformat and reinstall, you need to know that you're data and settings will be erased as well.
Have you thought of installing a second hard disk drive?
Also, I reccomend this freeware utility to clean out junk and unecessary files. It will also clean your registry. It ALSO has a utility to see how much space your programs are using on any drive.
Easy Cleaner will restore A LOT of space without having to reformat and reinstall, your last and worst option.

I agree with Lobster Boy...do NOT format!
You could also try a program called CCleaner (Crap Cleaner):
http://www.ccleaner.com/
Asus A7N8X-X
1800+ @ 8 x 210MHz
512MB PC3200
Asus Ti4800SE 128MB
WinME/WinXP Pro

No need to reformat, or else you lose all your data.
Use EasyCleaner to clean out alot of the excess junk.
Then turn off hibernation
Reduce/remove your page file (virtual memory).
Turn off system restore. These last 3 create pretty big system files that are normally inaccessible to you.
