Specs: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel Core 2 duo 2.10 GHz / 3.00 GB
The hard drive in my HP laptop which is a Western Digital SATA hard drive recently crashed. The operating system on the hard drive was windows 7. After it crashed, when I started it again it said unbootable hard drive. I took the hard drive out of my laptop and connected it to my desktop which has XP on it, using an USB 2.0 to IDE SATA HDD Adapter Cable. I have tried a lot of data recovery software to see if I can get my files back and none of them work. If anyone has an idea or solution to my problem please let me know.

Can you hear the drive spin up? I was once able to get a drive to spin up by giving the computer case a sharp twist.

Another old trick, may help, is to put the drive in the freezer and let it get real cold. Then try to get your data off of it.

Neither will last long though.

I had better results plugging it in internally on my desktop as a second hard drive when my daughter's laptop died.
If it is NOT spinning there is not much you can do if the freezer trick does not help. Getting data off non spinning drives is only possible by specialty shops and it is very expensive from what I understand.
NOW you know why we always say Back up, Back up, Back up!
In the future, keep a full current back up of your files, and a periodic image of the full drive is not a bad idea also. A Windows 7 Repair Disk is useful to recover from back up, especially if you have the image made through Windows Back up.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
