okay all, here is a real quick and short request for input on finding the most powerful laptop known to humankind in the ballpark of around $5000+/-.

I've looked at Go-L.com and alienware, and M-Tech but have yet to be impressed. go-l makes it seemingly impossible to find out more info online about the laptop on their homepage. ??

anyway I look forward to hearing back and need to get this laptop ordered VERY soon. today would be nice but darn soon will work.

Thanks to everyone yet to respond,
Chuck

For that $5,000 I would wait until Apple, HP, Lenovo & DEll are done working together on new battery standard. The reason is that for that much dough I won't want my laptop to end up in smoke.

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

Many thanks to all of you so far. Much to my chagrin, the user I am config'g this laptop for has given me a window of several days or maybe as late as wed. of next week to know exactly what will be ordered for his use.

This laptop will be generating and processing an enormous amount of geological data, each image being in the realm of several gigs, so you see why the machine needs to be able to handle the load.

It will connect to a server for heavy data storage, but big internal HD's help. The LCD size is almost irrelevant as it will be often connected to very large LCD's to work with all these images.

Thanks again, and please keep posting here, knowledge is power. And this project is very critical.

Laptops (even the ones referenced) are just not going to be on par with desktops. Will the user always be out of the opffice doing the processing? The reason I ask is you might consider suggesting one of each and only using the LT when in the field as a desktop will be capable of much more.

if you are interesting in a desktop circuit city or best buy has one. Or you can just customize. I think that this one should be able to handle it at the link below.
