Subject: Need new motherboard, suggestions?OS: Win XPCPU/Ram: athlon xp3000+/512ddr |
Comment: hi, i need a new motherboard (my old motherboard- GA-7N400 Pro2 (Rev 1.x)), and was thinking of getting pci express motherboard. I do quite a bit of gaming. My current CPU is a "socket A" CPU. Does anyone here know any good gaming pci-e motherboards that support socket A? If not, what are some good AGP motherboards? I was hoping for something around $150 but i'm open to any other suggestions above that price range. Thanks in advanced.

Reply: (edit)Socket A doesn't support PCI-e. If that's what you want, it's time for a complete rebuild...new socket 939 board (assuming you wanna stick with AMD), new CPU, new PSU, more RAM, & a new video card. What's wrong with your Giga-byte board? What video card do you have? ASUS A7N8X-X Athlon XP 1800+ 8.5 x 200MHz 1024MB PC3200 2.5-3-3-7 Asus A9550GE/TD 128MB WinME/WinXP Pro SP1

Reply: (edit)to answer your question, i think the agp slot of the motherboard, or any other part of the m/b that has anyting to do with the graphics card is faulty. It keeps on displaying yellow/blue/green patches all over my monitor, and sometimes it even turns my monitor off on it's own. The reason i do not think it's the GPU is because when i bend the card downwards (towards the ground) the little patches dissapear. Reply: (edit)"when i bend the card downwards (towards the ground) the little patches dissapear" I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that? Do you mean that you force the card deeper into the AGP slot? You didn't answer about which video card you have. How long have you had this problem? How long has this system been together? One possiblity is that you used the wrong standoffs when installing the motherboard in the case...if they are too short, the board would be too low for the AGP/PCI cards to fully seat in their slots. Reply: (edit)when my tower is standing upright, my graphics card is horizontal. When i bend it towards the ground, the coloured patches are gone. I've had the system for around 2 years now, but the problem only started around two weeks ago, when i pulled the card out to clean some of the dust off. i'm not very good with hardware, but i'm wondering if these two things might have caused the problem- 1. When i pulled the card out, i forgot that there was a little white button holding the card in place that has to be pulled out beforehand, so i pulled one side of the card completely out, with one end still inside the agp slot. Could this have damaged the card? 2. I left the power cable in the computer when i pulled the card out. Could that have caused sparks and maybe burn something on the motherboard/graphics card?
