Sure hope someone can help.... The Synaptics touchpad on this hp Compaq Presario is driving me nuts and has been for months. I've gone to Synaptics website and downloaded drivers, andI've cleaned the touchpad with windex as they suggested. All to no avail although the cleaning seems to temporarily help each time for 15 minutes or so. The external cordless usb mouse works great but this touchpad is a piece of crap. I wonder why hp would install such a bad pointing device on their products. I've did a little reading on this forum and it seems others have experienced this problem of erratic cursor behavior and not just on hp machines. However, I've seen no satisfactory solution. Maybe there isn't one although I sure hope there is because sometimes I feel like throwing this laptop up against the wall. Synaptics website offers no options for emailing, calling, or live chatting with a tech rep. In this short message, I've lost the cursor and had to reposition it a half dozen times ! All help will be much appreciated.

Hi, unfortunately there isn't one! I had one for nearly a year and in the end had to get rid of it! DELL is the same! I called HP LOADS of times and in the end they admitted it was a design fault and as yet no solution was available!

I then opted for a DELL inspiron 1525 and although slightly better, it is nearly as bad!

Thanks for your response, Matt. At least the cordless usb mouse I have works well when using the laptop indoors. Before I'd ever buy another laptop, I would do alot of research to make sure I wouldn't be getting one that has a useless pointing device that is so frustrating to use.

If the laptop is under warranty, take it back. Either that or get in touch with the laptop manufacturer instead of Synaptics. If I were you, I'd probably order a replacement touchpad and install it myself. Beware though that laptops are kinda tricky to get back together.
