i'm not familiar with win2000 but hear its the brother of XP. you would get better responses perhaps on the Linux Forum (??)

but having said that, get a hold of GParted Live CD ISO partition creator/editor. Its FREE just google fer it. burn the ISO to a cd and boot from that CD. You run the program from the CD itself....no need to install it on yer HDD. Select automatic when the menu pops up. you can then add another Primary partition in your Free Space to install Linux. adjust other partitions at the same time.

apart from all that, can't Win2000's ComputerManagement\DiskManager add another partition in for you while you are running Windows ?? with XP you can.

bottom line is BACKUP your important files before you do any partition work.

good luck

GParted download >>>>

http://gparted-livecd.tuxfamily.org/

on that webpage, on the top right, click on "Current Release 0.3.4-11"

to download the ISO, choose >>>
gparted-livecd-0.3.4-11.iso 2007-Dec-17 16:37:29 52.0M application/x-iso9660-image

(i use it to resize partitions and i give the program the thumbs up)

I use Ranish Partition Manager on a bootable CD.

Or... Linux installation discs are usually bootable and contain the tools necessary delete/create/format hard drive partitions.
