I'm wanting to upgrade my comps current AMD Athlon 64 X2 (W) 3800+ with the fastest cpu that my motherboards Socket AM2 can hold. Plus I'm trying to upgrade my ram from it's current 1Gig of DDR2 PC2-4200 2x512 mb up to 3Gigs of ram. My Question is since I've got 512mb of ram in 2 slots leaving me with 2 slots free, is it ok to put 1Gig each in the 2 remaining open slots giving me the 3Gigs. Also I've Been Told That Even Tho I'm Currently Running DDR2 PC2-4200 2x512mb That It's Ok To Add 2 1Gig Sticks of DDR2 PC2-5300 Into Those 2 Free Slots.

Yes you can use the 2 sticks of 1gig but the specs you posted there say the max speed supported is PC4200. Some motherboards are iffy about that stuff. If you use the PC5300 it may only recognize it as 4200 or may not recognize it all. Or maybe give you an error. If you haven't purchased yet I would get the 4200.

I want to go like my grandfather did. Peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming at the top of my longs like the passangers in his car.
