I have an Elitegroup K7S5A motherboard that crapped out on me two week ago. I would notice that if I left my computer on and went to bed or went out for the day, somtimes I would wake up or come back to a computer with a blank screen, and it was doing nothing. The only thing that I could do was reboot (had to press the reboot button on the computer, not ctrl-alt-del). So one morning I woke up and the computer has at it's blank state again, tried to reboot, nothing! The computer now does nothing. Everyhing powers up, but the compuer doesnt beep, and the monitor doesnt come on (out of sleep mode). Solution: Ordered new motherboard. Motherboard finally came in, I installed everything, and still, nothing happens. What could be the problem? I even tried powering my computer with a different power supply and everything!

I'll assume that while your PC was working
it would beep once when the BIOS had
finished it's stuff of checking the RAM and
HDs etc. And now it doesn't.

If it doesn't beep once then something is
wrong with a piece of the hardware or the
BIOS that prevents it from even booting
windows. Possibilities ( that I can think
of ) are:

MB is knackered ( well not that I guess )
Video card is dead
RAM is dead
BIOS could be corrupt ( not that as the MB
is new )
Insufficient power.

If you have a spare video card or can
get/borrow one trying swapping them.
Same with the RAM, if you have more than
one RAM chip try each one on its own
( unless its a P4 of course ;) )

Try disconnecting the power for any
EXTRA hard disks and the CD drives to see
if the system powers up correctly
without these, which would indicate
a lack of power. This is unlikely
but worth a go.

Plus did you configure the new MB for the
processor you are using? The chip speed
and the MB have to agree ( in most cases )
for the system to power on correctly.
There should be a block of little DIP
switches near the CPU slot that are flipped
up and down so make sure you have the correct
configuration there. The possible configs
will be either stamped on the MB somewhere
and/or in the manual you got with it.

Hope some any of this helps.

Cheers.

Mike.

Hi:make sure that your mobo not touching the case
also take a look for the power pin connector
and power lead connector maybe is set to 2 wire 3 pin
so set it to 2 wire & 2 pin and see if your mobo will boot up
peace.

no BIOS ? (6:06am EST Sun Feb 10 2002)
well i figured it out... everything is ok good Ram, the hard drive is fine,
everything.. the problem is My BIOS is either fried or i need to flash it.. I
looked at the OC Workshop and it told me to download a .ROM file and
rename it to amiboot.rom put it on a floppy.. and so on. So I did it and
nothing happened. My CDROM, CDR and floppy drive are all just spinning
for no reason. everything seems to be running enough to were i could just
put in the BIOS .rom and it would flash it, but i guess not? i would really
really appriciate some help. for all i know I might have to get another
BIOS chip?... hopefully I can fix it without spending anymore money$$$..
Thanks

BIOS upgrade? If so what and how? - by by Derek

CDROM reported as ATAPI Incompatible (2:59am EST Sun Aug 11 2002)
My CDROM is Pacific Digital 2x24x2 ATAPI CD-RW Drive which worked
OK until K7S5A installed. I have checked SETUP several times, and am
getting OCCASIONAL recognition of the CDROM, but then only music
CD's can be accessed. I noticed that IRQ11 has several things hung on
it, but no conflicts are reported. Has anyone else had this sort of
problem, and if so, how was it solved? - by Derek

Can anybody on this forum help please?
