need help in monitor care

hi, my viewsonic PF790 flat screen monitor has some deficiencies at the top corners.. after i use a moist soft cloth to wipe it, it appears that the external coating had come off. on both top corners. i've been cleaning my monitor for 3yrs like this, only water, i dont use any cleaning solvent. the part where it appears the coating had come off, the screen looks lighter (i guess the coating is darker in colour like a sunscreen) what do i do now? shd i scrap off all other areas so it at least appears uniform throughout? coz the top corners is an eyesore now.. and i've been taking so good care of my monitor, dem it. never thot this wld happen. any suggestion appreciated, thanks.
