Need help fixing Dad's aged HP Pavilion

Specs: i think widow me or 98, i thni 256 or so
if it helps when turned on the screen says burning mode and the light that tells ur if your computer processing wont blink it stays orange anyway iam not good with the older series computer and i wanna fix for my dad any help will be appreciated

You mean 'burn in mode'?

From here:

"The monitor's burn-in mode has become activated. While holding down the menu and plus buttons, press the power button to turn off the screen. When the screen comes back on, press the minus button to enter the service menu. Turn off burn-in mode here."

Although that might vary with the monitor model. If possible check the monitor manual.

If the LED on the computer front panel stays amber then there's likely something wrong with the computer. Possibly the burn in mode is activated when the monitor is on but receiving no signal from the PC.

But first try to get the monitor to respond normally and see if you get anything on the screen when the PC is on.

Now that's what I call a sticky situation
