Comment:

ok so i have no clue what so ever about graphic cards, my Acer Aspire has a PCI slot and i have on it a Nvidia FX5200 Agp 8x .

my question 1) what is an AGP 8x 2)what is a PCI slot 3) i need to know what is the best graphic card in the market which my computer can support( dont worry im going to buy a 1 gb ram)

thank you, if there is a site which could teach me all these things, i would be really grateful.

Note: im not rich but im going to ask my brother who lives in canada to get me graphic card and ram, so i would like to know what exactly should i tell him.

the game i currently play is CSS and it gets a bit laggy because of my graphic card and ram, all i want is to be able to play the next generation of CS when it comes out

There are three slots that can be used for video cards, depending on the make/model/age of the motherboard...standard PCI, AGP & PCI-Express.

- standard PCI is way outdated & should not be used for video unless you don't have either of the other two options.

- AGP was the way to go until a couple of years ago. It has been replaced by PCI-Express.

Since you apparently have an 8X AGP slot, that's the type of card you should be looking for. The downside is that decent cards for gaming are expensive, plus they're power hungry. You *may* need to upgrade your power supply to run a really good card. Check this out:

"another question how can i have a AGp on a PCI ?"

You don't. If you have an AGP card, it's in an AGP slot. Unless you have some form of FX5200 onboard graphics that uses the AGP bus?

"and what do you mean by upgrading power supply?"

According to the following link, you have a 200W power supply (PSU). That's barely adequate for your system in it's stock form...if you add a higher end AGP video card with higher power requirements, it's likely the 200W PSU will buckle under the added load & your system will crash.

"upgrade what exactly?"

The power supply itself. It's a self contained unit with the PC case. Plan on spending at least $50 for something decent.
