I am desperately searching for the driver for XP Pro, for an ACER Internal CD-RW 12X8X32. I recently reinstalled my OS after having a new hard drive put in. Now I am unable to burn CD's on my burner, the ACER. I don't know what the exact problem is, but I think I need the proper driver. Can anyone please help me? I am so frustrated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Liana,

You don't mean the driver which loads in config.sys, do you?

Is XP recognizing the drive?

What SW are you trying to burn with?

What errors?

You `probably' need an update to your burner sofware. The recording driver fir your drive is built into the burner software.

Mechanix2Go:
"You don't mean the driver which loads in config.sys, do you?" Okay, I'm really not sure. I have an ACER internal CDRW installed, as well as, a CD-ROM, which came with the computer.

"Is XP recognizing the drive?" No. No "E" drive is showing up anywhere on my computer. It's like it doesn't even exist.

"What SW are you trying to burn with?" Nero, which appears to be working fine, but there is no CD-RW recognized to burn the CD's.

"What errors?" CD's don't burn, even though Nero works fine. When I put a music CD into the "E" drive the computer doesn't even recognize that a CD has been inserted. It doesn't play and when I click on "My Computer" there is no "E" drive recognized.

You seem to know what your talking about. I've had a pretty terrible month trying to deal with various problems.

First my hard drive went, so I took the computer to Best Buy, what a mistake, where they installed a new hard drive and reinstalled my OS. Ever since I got the computer back it's been running really slow, which it shouldn't be because I have all 3 memory slots filled and a cable connection.

All I want to do is burn my files onto CD's and reinstall the OS, but I can't even do that because the burner doesn't work. The computer is really buggy, like it takes at least 10 seconds to open "My Documents" and when I play MP3's on Windows Media Player it skips and skips. It's like the computer is on some sort of lag.

I don't know where the software is that came with the ACER CD-RW. I have searched everywhere to no avail. I got it years ago and am not the most organized person. Any idea where I can find it?

I really don't know what to do at this point, but feel better for getting that all out. Please, anyone who can help me, my email is liana@optonline.net and I am desperate for help. Thank you so much.

Wow, damn you Bestbuy! lol

Well, it could be a bad IDE cable, or the jumper is set wrong. Or it is simply disabled in the BIOS for some reason.
