Need compatible video card replacement options for desktop.

December 29, 2011 at 12:53:22
Specs: Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel Core 2 Quad/8gig

The NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GS video card in my HP Pavilion M9510f desktop is defective (again). The fan has failed on two identical cards. I need replacement options. I prefer not to replace it in kind because the NVIDIA card appears to be an inferior product. I would like to replace it with a higher quality product that is compatible with my desktop. I would like 1Gig of memory on the card. What video cards are compatible? The desktop's power supply is 350 watts but I have a 425 watt replacement power supply I can install if needed.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Your going to have to install the 425 watt power supply and that very well might be why your two cards have failed, not enough power.

Check into the ATI series, that might be less of a strain on your system with a lower powered supply.

Thank you for your reply. The 350 watt power supply and the video card came standard on the HP desktop when I purchased it. I called HP and they said I had to replace the video card in kind with another NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GS. Of course I said no. I assumed that HP would not sell products with incompatible components. Perhaps I assume too much. I will look at the ATI video cards.

Thanks again.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the power supply!

Excessive Fan Noise from GeForce 9500GS Graphics Card

This document only pertains to HP and Compaq Desktop PCs with

Certain GeForce 9500GS graphics cards by MSI Logistic LLC produce
excessive, noticeable buzzing, rattling, or scratchy sounds
coming from the graphics card fan. MSI Logistic LLC is providing
modified GeForce 9500GS graphics cards that help prevent excessive
fan noise. Modified graphics cards contain a fan shroud that is
blue. Previous GeForce 9500GS graphics cards have black fan
covers.
