Specs: Windows XP Pro
My computer will not finish loading XP Pro. It hangs after completing the initial load and reboot. I believe that I need to flash the BIOS but cant boot and flash. So, I need a bootable CD that will flash the BIOS.

Did you re enter the bios and select boot from the hard drive instead of the CD?

Why is it that when something goes wrong with a computer people immediately stump for the least likely culprit when there is a myriad of other far more likely causes.

What makes you thing that you need to flash the BIOS?

What have you done to make a BIOS flash necessary?

The fact that the computer even starts load Windows is a good indication that there is nothing wrong with the BIOS.

You problems lie elsewhere, possibly faulty memory or a faulty hard disk. Certainly not the BIOS.

What you do need though is a bootable CD to do anything, but not to flash the BIOS.

I tried swapping memory around and used the original DRAM that came with the board, but it hangs when I go into the standard CMOS.

Listen to what Stuart says. It is not the bios. Look for something else, the RAM seems the most likely, but it could be some other hardware. But not the bios!!!

The three most important things in computing:
1. Backups, 2. Backups and 3. Backups.

The problem is unlikely to be the BIOS. In any vent flashing the BIOS is not something to be done lightly. The BIOS you are flashing with must be designed for your system. Even a slight mismatch and you have an unbootable system. Recovering from a failed BIOS flash can mean physically replacing the BIOS chips.
