Solved Need assistance with external hard drive

Specs: Windows 8.1
I was looking into my external hard drive, a WD My Passport 0830 device and I went through properties and to the security tab hoping to make the device accessible only to myself or at the very least require a password because I have very nosy neighbors whom frequently visit. In doing so however, I removed most users from the list of that was shown to me and after doing so, the device became inactive, stating it was now a local disk and that security access was not allowed to me even as an administrator. It now claims that I must have read permissions to view the properties of the object and when I go to rectify the issue, it asks me to attempt to try and take ownership through a change option. Clicking on that opens a box that shows 3 areas: "Select this object, "From this location" and finally "Enter the object name to select". I am unsure of how to proceed here and would greatly appreciate any knowledge on the matter.
