Specs: Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate, 2.167 GHz / 2549 MB
I'm doing a final project for a class, our project is to create an IT Request For Proposal, basically we're making up an IT proposal for a fictional company, a small finance company.

There's 10 employees total. So far for the main hardware requirements I have:
1. 10 desktops (w/ lcd monitors)
2. 3 laptops
3. 2 servers (one application server and one for email/web/etc)
4. 2 wireless routers, 24-port ethernet switch
5. 1 tape backup drive
6. 2 laser printers
7. Desk phones
8. Video conferencing kit

And here's the software I got:
1. QuickBooks Enterprise 9.0
2. McAfee Total Protection - should protect all computers and servers?
3. Symantic pcAnywhere - for remote access?
4. Norton PartitionMagic 8.0 - server disk partitioning?
5. MS Office 2007 Professional

I'm just wondering if there's any important ones I'm missing that should be included, hardware/software that you can think of for any type of small office and for a finance consulting firm. Or also any suggestions for alternatives to the one's I've listed.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

I don't see any mention of Operating Systems, you are going to need that before you can do anything. Why Partition Magic when the Operating System should do all the partitioning you need.

Why two routers. Unless you have a definite identifiable need for two routers one should be enough.

Get xp pro as xp home has a problem if more than 5 computers connect to the network at the same time.

Tape drives are really slow.....unless a new model has come out that can backup the system in ones own lifetime.

Not knowing how picky your instructor is....
Check and see what you need to incorporate in your state....a license and insurance, liability, workmans comp etc.

Also a proposed site and lease agreement.

Yes I know this is not a real company but should you ever actually start one,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Don't forget the paperwork!

Wish you the best on your assignment.

Stuart: Didn't mention OS because the computers and servers will already come loaded with the OS so no need to purchase a separate copy for now.

And yea I guess I'll remove PartitionMagic when the OS should work for that. And I meant just one router, not sure why I put two I just meant 2 wireless access points.

worldlibrary: Any suggestions for a backup system? For backups would I just need like a storage server? Like network attached storage or direct attached storage or any of those, we went over it in class I just forgot what it was exactly for.

Also we're just acting as IT consultants so we don't have to worry about workman's comp and licenses and all that hehe :P.
