Howdy! I seem to be having some trouble with my burner since I upgraded to XP! Put in simple words, though windows sees the drive (and recognises the name) it detects it as a CDROM drive and not a DVDRW drive and hence any program I use to burn (nero, deppburner, alcohol, etc) doesn't find any drive to burn to...
Any ideas?

What does Windows show you in Device Manager - DVD/CDRom drives?
When you re-format and/or do a clean/fresh install of your operating system, or upgrade your operating system, you should always re-install the drivers for your mboard - the chipset drivers especially. Whatever is on your mboard CD is usually sufficient, or you can often get what is necessary on the mboard web site as well. Windows doesn't always find all the information about your mboard that is required for it to work properly when you run Setup, especially if the mboard is newer than when the operating system was released.
If you have not done that, do it.In addition, Windows sometimes installs a CD or DVD drive in the wrong mode, and some burner drives won't work correctly until the mode has been corrected. Your drive is capable of at least Multiword DMA, or Ultra DMA 2 - it should not be in PIO mode.
See this:

If it won't come out of PIO mode, I have further info.
